Alvin
Youngblood Hart, Down in the Alley, 2002 Memphis
International Records, $16. This is Memphis resident Alvin Hart's
4th and newest release, and it is awesome. It's just him with his
acoustic guitar (plus some banjo) doing pre-war Delta classics by
legends like Charley Patton and Son House. He is faithful to each
tune, but this is not a note-for-note copy fest. Hart makes each track
come alive. He conveys the spirit of each song in a way that keeps
the music fresh and exciting. Jim Dickinson produced it. Billy Gibbons,
Dave Alvin and Robert Gordon wrote the liner notes. 12 tracks:
- Judge Bouche
- How Long Before
I Can Change My Clothes
- Deep Blue Sea
- Jinx Blues
- Bootlegger's Blues
- Alberta
- Broke and Hungry
- Devil Got My Woman
- Chilly Winds
- Tom Rushen Blues
- Please Baby
- Motherless Child

Foster, Live at Airport Grocery, 1999 Mempho Records, $15.
