T-Model
Ford, Bad Man, 2002 Fat Possum Records, $17. The
title kind of says it all. Doesn't it? T-Model is baaaad. Sure, he
killed a man once in self-defence. Sure, he still l carries a knife.
But he puts out an awefully good, Delta groove album. Self-taught
and proud of it, T-Model's music is as original as it comes. Bent
notes, distorted chords and lyrics about... well, being bad. That's
what this 79-year-old has to offer. He starts the CD by announcing
that he's from Greenville, Mississippi. True. But I prefer the geographical
description he once gave me: "I'm from the United States of Mississippi!"
(CD produced by Jim Dickinson.) 10 tracks:
- Ask Her For Water
- Everything's Gonna Be Alright
- Yes, I'm Standing
- Bad Man
- Somebody's Knockin'
