Lonnie
Holley -- visionary artist.
Ever talk with Lonnie
Holley? He's on another level. Crazy? No. Creative? Absolutely. He is
a visionary. Self-taught and driven, Holley has made his life his art.
His yard, his house, his car, his business. It's all art. He paints on
anything, works with wire, carves sandstone and pulls together complicated
found-object pieces that stretch the envelope. Do a web search on Holley
to learn more, but this Alabama legend has been featured in several major
big city shows and several high end outsider art books. He can make something
out of nothing and instill it with so much meaning that you can't believe
he stores it (and most of his art) out in the yard or eternally open garage.
The tall tiki looking painted wood piece below was literally stuck in
the dirt and weeds of his front yard. We struggled to pull it up, he remembered
it and said, "let's sell it." It's an older, very collectible
piece. The wire faces were hanging in his trees. The watercolor paintings
were stuffed under a pile of other artwork and supplies in his garage.
Take a close look, and let us know if you like anything you see. (We also
have one sandstone sculpture still in stock, but you would have to pick
it up. I wouldn't trust UPS with it!)
Polynesian looking
painting on old wood (approx. 63x11.5"), $950. Framed watercolor
paintings (25" tall or wide), $200 each. Silver wire face (16"
tall), $100. Black/multicolor wire face (20" tall), $200.
