George Kornegay -- outside outsider artist.
Rev. George Kornegay
is nearly 90-years-old. He lives in Alabama where he has built an art
environment into his hillside. Found objects and painted materials are
arranged in rows, facing the country road that passes his property. It
is his monument to God, but other folks like it, too. His son helps him
keep watch over it. Unfortunately, his son is more of a player, so he's
less into the aesthetics and meaning... and more into the green of the
scene. Still, the reverend's work is wonderful as is the man, himself.
His work has rarely if ever been formally shown, though it has made it
into a couple of books. We only have one piece left at Cat Head, but
it sure is nice.
