Super Chikan -- Clarksdale's blues artist.
James "Super Chikan" Johnson plays the blues and makes folk art right here in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He's an endlessly creative and humorous man. His music has taken him around the world, but he's never lost touch with his roots. Just as his blues songs contain autobiographical references, his paintings often recall country settings or blues scenes of youth. Chikan has played his music at Cat Head, and we are very proud to carry his wonderful artwork. Incidentally, he is set to receive the Mississippi governor's award in spring 2004. We're not surprised. It's been a long time coming.
